For the ninth consecutive year, Fort Wayne's holiday season gets underway with, "Christmas on Broadway," the annual tree lighting on the Broadway Plaza (in front of the Shine & Hardin Law Offices), one of Fort Wayne's favorite holiday traditions. Again this year St. Joseph Hospital, Indiana Michigan Power, Horizon Christian Academy, Lake City Bank, WANE-TV, Majic 95.1 WAJI, and Shine & Hardin, LLP sponsor the kickoff of Fort Wayne's 2013 holiday season on Friday, November 22, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. when the lights on a massive 40-foot Blue Spruce at the Broadway Plaza will be illuminated. The celebration is one of the many holiday events sponsored in part by the Downtown Improvement District.

The tree, which will be delivered to the Broadway Plaza by Mudrack Tree Services on the morning of November 15, 2013 (and which will be televised on WANE-TV, News Channel 15), will be put in place by a crane and crew from Harold McComb & Son Construction. During the next seven days, until the tree lighting on November 22, Summit City Electric, Vision Scapes and A Yard Apart will prepare the tree for illumination, that being no small task given the size of the 40-foot Blue Spruce.

For the remainder of the holiday season, the WANE-TV Weather Cam, in real time color, high definition, will be strategically located on the Broadway Plaza, tracking holiday season traffic on one of Fort Wayne's most traveled corridors, as well as capturing the beauty of the multi-colored 20,000 light Christmas tree. The placement of the camera in the core of the urban community demonstrates the importance to WANE-TV of the thousands of residents and small businesses that comprise this portion of our community.

The Majic in the Morning team from MAJIC 95.1 WAJI, will be broadcasting live from the Broadway Plaza on November 22, beginning at 5:00 p.m., and will be providing regular traffic updates that evening to help facilitate easy access for those driving to and from the event.

The tree lighting will be preceded by live holiday music, featuring the Horizon Christian Academy Chorus and the crowd favorite, the Holiday Jazz Ensemble. Holiday food and beverages will be provided by Hall's Restaurant, as well as an appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus and their live reindeer. The Polar Express will also provide train rides for the children throughout the evening.

"This is the ninth consecutive year for our "Christmas on Broadway" holiday celebration and it just keeps getting bigger and better!" said event coordinator, Steve Shine, Senior Partner of the law firm of Shine & Hardin, LLP. The Christmas tree is a symbol of the unity of the surrounding neighborhoods that comprise an important part of the Broadway Corridor, those being the Creighton-Home Neighborhood Association, Historic South Wayne Neighborhood Association, Historic Oakdale Neighborhood Association, Fairfield Neighborhood Association, Illsley Place Neighborhood Association, Williams-Woodland Neighborhood Association and West Rudisill Neighborhood Association. This year's tree was donated by Fabian and Agnes Gabrek of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

"We are deeply grateful to the many businesses that help defray the costs of this event. They have chosen to use their funds to maintain and build the strength of our community's families and urban neighborhoods. They have donated their time, effort, and financial resources to continue to make this much anticipated event a reoccurring celebration of the holiday season and to keep their commitment to help maintain a strong urban core of our great city," Shine said.

Christmas on Broadway is part of WANE-TV's celebration of the holidays, which includes the telecast of Steve Shine's Annual Holiday Marathon, to be broadcast on Christmas Day from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
